Investors are rallying to combat Antibiotic Resistance (AMR) in food supply chains, writes Sarah Neville for the Financial Times. AMR claims millions of lives and incurs huge economic losses. With 70% of antibiotics used in animals, investors are increasingly pushing for change. Earlier this year, the FAIRR Initiative launched an engagement supported by 71 investors with a combined $15.2tn in assets, urging fast-food chains to adopt responsible antibiotic practices. The volume of shareholder resolutions over the past 18 months demonstrates that “investors are actually willing to really put their names out there to try to bring AMR to front and centre of companies’ priorities”, said Sofía Condés, Head of Investor Outreach at FAIRR. Though some oppose resolutions, there's a growing consensus that change is vital.
