Based in Boston, Florey Biosciences engineers probiotics that deliver functional proteins directly in the gut. Antibiotics and modern diets can disrupt the gut microbiome, and that damage is linked to infections, antibiotic resistance and metabolic disease. Today’s probiotics rarely have a clear mechanism of action, and more advanced options like microbiome transplants are hard to make safely at scale.
Florey’s platform gives probiotics a specific, controlled job in the gut. Its first product protects the microbiome during antibiotic treatment by neutralizing leftover antibiotic in the gut, while the drug keeps working in the body. Founded in 2024 by scientists from Harvard and the Wyss Institute, the company is developing its products as medical and functional foods.
