Metabolic Psychiatry Labs treats serious mental illness through metabolism. People with conditions like bipolar disorder, major depression and schizophrenia often also struggle with obesity, insulin resistance and other metabolic problems, and each condition makes the other worse. Standard care treats the two separately, and psychiatric medication alone often has limited effect.
The company runs a remote care program that combines psychiatric treatment with personalized metabolic interventions: diet, including ketogenic approaches, supplements and medication adjustments. Patients are monitored through an app that tracks lab results, glucose and ketone levels and mental health measures, and the data guides each person’s treatment. The company was founded by Dr. Shebani Sethi, who pioneered the field of metabolic psychiatry at Stanford, and is based in Menlo Park, California.
