Astanor Ventures Welcomes Thomas Nagy as 'Operational Partner' To Enhance Global Reach and Expertise in Life Sciences and Industrial Biotechnology

Brussels, November 27th 2023Astanor Ventures, a global leader in agrifood tech impact investing, is thrilled to announce the addition of Thomas Nagy to its team as an ‘Operational Partner,’ strengthening the firm’s position in the fields of life sciences and industrial biotechnology. With over 30 years of invaluable industry experience, Thomas Nagy will provide a wealth of expertise and insights that will significantly benefit Astanor Ventures’ investments and portfolio companies. This follows Astanor Ventures’ recent closure of its second €360M fund, underscoring its continued growth and dedication to fostering innovation in the agrifood tech sector.

In his new part-time role at Astanor Ventures, Thomas will continue to be based in Copenhagen, Denmark. He will collaborate closely with the investment team, leveraging his extensive network and industry knowledge to source investment opportunities in sectors and geographies where he maintains strong connections. Thomas will also play a crucial role in pre-investment assessments and post-investment portfolio operational support, enhancing Astanor Ventures’ ability to drive value and impact within the industries it serves.

Thomas Nagy’s career includes a remarkable career over almost 3 decades with the Novo group including a 16-year tenure at Novozymes A/S (CPH: NZYM-B), a leading global biotechnology company, where he held progressively responsible positions within the organization. During his time at Novozymes, Thomas worked in various locations across Europe and North America and served on the Executive Leadership Team from 2007 to 2016.

As Executive Vice President for Supply Operations at Novozymes, Thomas led the company’s entire global supply chain operations, spanning four continents, enhancing his global perspective. His contributions to the company’s supply chain efficiency and sustainability initiatives were instrumental in achieving operational excellence. This experience allowed him to gain a comprehensive understanding of global operations, which he now brings to Astanor Ventures.

Following his career at Novozymes, Thomas founded the BioInnovation Institute in Copenhagen on behalf of the Novo Nordisk Foundation.

And more recently, Thomas Nagy held the position of Chief Operating Officer at 21st.BIO, a Danish early-stage company that provides development and supply support for innovative biotech companies specializing in large-scale fermentation. This role reinforced his commitment to nurturing the growth and innovation of biotech startups, aligning perfectly with Astanor Ventures’ mission.
